Photo
Services are among the more valuable services we provide
for owners of websites.
Photos
give a website personality and, many times, it
is that personality that closes the sale. Photos can be a subtle
seller. Take a look at the photos we use on the About Us page.
Then click on Photo Services in the left column to return to this
page.
What
do the photos on the About Us page convey? Our company
is run by real people -- just like anyone reading the page. Much
of the Internet is faceless. Who are the people behind the website?
Our photos show us to be a fairly normal family: husband and wife
with two children, grandfather, playful wife, loving father, young
college grad.
What
are you selling? Products? Services? If you have ever
been to a sales school or had any other sales training you know
that the first thing you sell is yourself. The Internet doesn't
give you very much time to do that. It's still true: a picture
is worth a thousand words.
Are
you promoting a SERVICE? One of our clients is one of Arkansas' largest independent insurance agencies. This type of business MUST convey professionalism, information
and expertise. Photos are used to show a friendly staff and to put a face to the phone numbers. Photos add a human touch that lacks in so many businesses today. Visit McGhee Insurance.
INTERNET
PHOTOS ARE DIFFERENT
It's
2006 as I write this. The Internet has been around quite some time
and computer sales are strong YET 50% of Internet customers
are using dial-up connections! Improperly formatted photos
will either never load or load so slowly that your potential customer
goes to another site rather than wait.
The
most popular photo formats are jpg, gif and png. Size should be
limited to 50K or less, and anything over 25K will load slowly
on dial-up. That means photos must be resized, resized, resized
and optimized by file-shrinking BUT not distorted by shrinking
the size.
Larger
photos may need to be sliced in order for the
web page to load more quickly. In many instances, you can draw
attention to a photo by using a thumbnail image that links to the
larger photo.
What
About Photo Stealing? Remember, who ever takes the photo
owns the copyright to it unless it was done as a work for hire
and the agreement spells out the transfer of copyright. You should
know that determined thieves can get around most protections you
can take.
You
can disable right click capabilities on your photo pages. You can
add a digital watermark to your photos. You can add words on your
photos to make them less attractive to a thief. The addition of
words directly on your photos also makes them less attractive to
your customers.
